TUFS Music Fan Club Lunch Meeting: "Music, Feminicide and Feminist Resistance in Latin America"
December 17, 2025
The TUFS Music Fan Club, established by the International Education Support Office (IES), held a lunch meeting on Thursday, December 11, 2025. Sofía Huerta (TUFS PCS Doctoral Student) gave a thought-provoking and pertinent presentation titled "Music, Feminicide and Feminist Resistance in Latin America". She introduced the background of feminist movements in Latin America, including her home country Mexico, and shared some emblematic songs, such as “Ni Una Menos” by Rebeca Lane and “Canción Sin Miedo” by Vivir Quintana, which have become anthems in the feminist resistance movement across Latin America. Around 13 students, staff, and faculty members attended the meeting and engaged in a lively discussion regarding the impact these songs have had on policies in Latin American countries regarding feminicide, and the cultural effect of the feminist movement in Latin America and also internationally.?
The goal of the TUFS Music Fan Club is to bring together TUFS faculty, staff, and students through their common love of music. We welcome any member of the TUFS community – from first year undergraduates to emeritus professors – to join us in thinking about how musical activities as listener and/or performer enrich our study of language and culture. There are no restrictions on genre, skill, or language – TUFS’ mission is “intercultural coexistence”. Join us in creating a space for learning more about genres that we perhaps do not usually listen to, using Japanese, English, and music to communicate.
